A few weeks ago my husband and I had the honor of chatting on the Yoga with Bae IG platform. Created by Yoga Teacher & Relationship Health Advocate, Shay Hampton, Yoga With Bae is a yoga experience and movement to inspire Great Love, Health, & Passion in relationships. Through in-person and virtual couples yoga classes and events, Shay desires to see couples adopt yoga as wellness practice that strengthens their love and bodies. Through Yoga With Bae an engaging and entertaining love talk conversation was started called #BetterTogetherChats, where Shay interviews couples at different stages in their relationship to encourage gratitude and connection in the gift of being together.
“Don't move the way fear makes you move. Move the way love makes you move. Move the way joy makes you move.” ~ Osho.
It was such a great chat, yall! Let me first say I love telling our love story. Jairus and I met when we were 19 & 20 and neither of us were really looking for anything serious. Who knew after meeting him in a club parking lot we would be where we are today. One of my favorite parts was talking about our communication and how we got to where we are now. Where we are open, honest and sometimes just straight forward with one another. It wasn't always like this. In the beginning of our relationship Jairus would avoid tough conversations and keep his feelings to himself. He thought he was choosing his battles wisely but in all honesty he was leaving me in the dark to guess how he was feeling. Then when something happend and we got into disagreements he would bring them up and I would not even know he felt that way he did, but he never communicated it to me. He eventually started to open up more and tell me how he REALLY felt. These were tough times and growing pains for sure, but we got through them.
In relationships, communication allows to you explain to someone else what you are experiencing and what your needs are. The act ofcommunicating not only helps to meet your needs, but it also helps you to be connected in the relationship.
You can check out our live chat with Shay below. It's 35 minutes long but you'll truly love it especially the end where she askes us to grab hands, gaze into eachothers eyes and say why we are better together! Whew, My husband sure knows how to reach deep and make me weak because baby he put my nervous response to shame and I loved every moment. I hope you enjoy and tell me what you guys think in the comments.
